The White Bird of Kinship (trilogy)
Can't make up it's mind whether to be pulp fantasy, pulp sci-fi or just pulp.
The Last Light of the Sun
Current reading .... Guy Gavriel Kay is one of my favourite authors, so this is a treat :-)
1215: The Year of the Magna Carta
Rather popularist yet also scholarly, look at life in early thirteenth century England.
A History of the Arab Peoples
Excellent, though somewhat dry, look at Arab culture and history.
Conclave of Shadows
Trilogy (?) from the excellent Raymond Feist ... not his best, but I had to keep reading.
The Devil's Disciples
Very readable account of Hitler's various lieutenants (Goring, Himmler etc).
Intensity
An excellent Koontz book, much better than The Taking. Recommended in fact.
The Coral Island
Disappointing Victorian boys-own yarn, full of stuffy morality -any sense of danger is drowned in sugar.
Elizabeth the Great
Chatty and gossipy rather than scholarly, but a darn good read!
The Wars Against Saddam: Taking the Hard Road to Baghdad
excellent overview by the BBC's chief foreign correspondant.
The Taking
My first Koontz. Read it in an afternoon, but very enjoyable, though a weak ending I thought.
Eleanor of Aquitaine: By the Wrath of God, Queen of England
Enjoyable biography of Henry II's queen. Recommended.
The Darksword Trilogy
Pulp fantasy again. Well, it passes the time ...
My Trade
Brilliant and illuminating look at Journalism by Andy Marr, thenBBC political editor.
Dragonlance Chronicles
Better than the Icewind Dale books, but not by much. Pulp fantasy.
Horatio Nelson
An excellent biography of an astonishing man, warts and all - 200th anniversary of Trafalgar this year.
King Solomon's Mines
One from the Boys Own shelf - and one i felt I ought to have read. Very dated of course.
Icewind Dale trilogy
I had to re-read these to discover how bad they were. Not in a hurry to read them again.
Blair
Balanced, yet brutally honest. The man is a political phenomenon, whatever u think of him.
Saga of the Exiles - Vol 1-4
First re-read of these books for a few years
The October Horse
The last in a series of excellent novels set as the Roman Republic turned into the Empire.
Harry Potter & The Order of the Phoenix
I wish there had been books like this when I was a kid!
